Hollande calls Macron’s election decision a “brain impulse” and “harmful to the country”

Former French president and candidate for parliament with the new Popular Front Francois Hollande told a French television station today that the democratic party in France has been reformed through processes that have been “painful for the governing party and transparent for the parties of the left.” Referring to the withdrawal of left-wing candidates from around 130 constituencies to reduce the chances of the far-right winning, Hollande said that this would potentially reduce the total number of left-wing MPs but that this “was a price that had to be paid”. The former French president predicted that after the second round of parliamentary elections there would be a more balanced left with more socialists and environmentalists, which could gradually provide solutions and not just pose obstacles.
