Hollywood actor George Seagal has died

The Hollywood man actor George Seagal, nominated for a 1967 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the film Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, died yesterday Tuesday in California at age 87 years, said Deadline magazine, which specializes in American cinema.

George Seagal is dead because of “complications after heart bypass surgery”, said Sonia’s wife in an announcement that came into possession of the magazine.

Who was George Seagal?

Born on February 17, 1934 in a small New York City town, he made his big-screen debut in the 1960s, starring in The Longest Day (1962), an epic war film about landing in Normandy.

He would become famous a few years later, for his role in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf, alongside giant seventh art figures such as Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton.

He starred in films by legendary directors, such as Stanley Kramer (Ship of Fools, 1965), or Sidney Lumet (Bye Bye Braverman, 1968).

In the posters of about fifty films as of 2010, he received, in addition to the Oscar nominations, the Golden Globe for a 1974 comedy, Melvin Frank’s A Touch of Class.

In recent years he has mainly taken on roles in television series.
