Holocaust Memory Day: Family members protest hostages in Gaza

Hostwear families still kept in the Gaza Strip celebrated on Thursday (24) the Holocaust Memory Day, an annual event that takes place in Israel.

The protest had an appeal for the 59 Israelis and Foreigners – dead and alive – who remain detained in Palestinian territory to return to Israel.

While the sirens in memory of the six million Jews killed by the Nazis echoed at 10am (local time), families held cardboard clippings with hostage portraits and positioned themselves around a circular square in Tel Aviv.

This is the second year in which Israel celebrates the annual day in the shadow of the Gaza War, which began with the attacks led by Hamas south of Israel on October 7, 2023, which killed 1,200 people and hosted 250, according to Israeli counts.

Since then, families have struggled for the return of loved ones and their bodies, with impasse negotiations.

For the hostage aunt Inbar Haiman, who was kidnapped at the new and captive new music festival massacre in Gaza, Holocaust memory day serves as a severe reminder of the uncertain fate of hostages. ”

Haiman’s great -grandfather died in the Holocaust and the body was never found. He comments on generations who experienced the Holocaust “Inbar is the third generation of the Holocaust. His grandfather was a little boy in the Holocaust and the great -grandfather, who was in the Holocaust, the body was not found to this day.”

“He is buried in a common ditch in Romania and, to my great sadness, I hope the story does not repeat in my family, but Inbar, after the holocaust of October 7 (2023), is buried somewhere in Gaza, and we should do everything to bring her back home.” Hannah Cohen, 60, told Reuters.
