Honda has introduced the Honda Activa E electric scooter, which supports battery swap technology. This allows you to replace the battery with a charged one at stations under a subscription model or for a nominal fee. The user can also purchase a backup battery that can be recharged and replaced when the installed battery runs out.
Earlier this year, Bounce also launched the Bounce Infinity E1 electric scooter, which was India’s first electric scooter with a replaceable battery. The company also introduced a similar subscription-based battery replacement system dubbed “Battery as a Service”.
In this regard, the upcoming Honda Activa E will be a direct competitor to the Bounce Infinity E1 along with other big electric scooters in India such as Ola S1, Bajaj Chetak, Ather 450X and Hero Electric scooters.

Now is thought to be a good time for Honda to enter the Indian EV market as battery prices are declining and state governments have announced incentives to encourage a faster transition to EVs. Industry stakeholders have also stated that the industry’s potential is very high.
Honda partner Hero is also set to launch its new electric scooter next month, which will lead to increased competition in the emerging Indian electric vehicle market.
