Four people, including a son of former Honduran president Porfirio Lobo, were shot dead by gunmen Thursday as they left a discotheque in the capital Tegucigalpa, according to the former head of state and police.
Mr Lobo told local media that the gunmen “forced the youths out of cars” and killed them.
He said his son Said, 23, is dead, while another son, Luis, who was present but was in another car, is safe.
According to the police, the crime was committed in the underground parking lot of the building where the disco operates.
Surveillance footage, broadcast by HCH TV, shows masked men with rifles stopping a car, forcing the occupants to get out and pinning them against a wall.
Among the victims was also the nephew of retired general Romeo Vazquez, the leader of the 2009 military coup that overthrew then-president Manuel Zelaya.
Porfirio Lobo – who ruled Honduras from 2010 to 2014 – has another son, Fabio, who is currently serving a prison sentence in the US for drug trafficking. The former president’s wife, Rosa Bonilla, is also in jail in Tegucigalpa after being convicted in a corruption case that unfolded while she was still first lady.
