Following El Salvador, the authorities of Honduras are beginning to consider the possibility of recognizing bitcoin as legal tender.
Initially, this possibility was reported by bitcoin enthusiast Max Keiser. In a post on Twitter, Kaiser wrotethat “this is really happening” and attached an image of the flag of Honduras.
Then similar information published Bitcoin Lightning Network+ account. In their message, the account owners stated that the President of Honduras, Xiomara Castro, is preparing to recognize bitcoin. According to her, this will avoid the hegemony of the US dollar:
“We must not allow El Salvador to be the only country to escape the hegemony of the US dollar. Honduras has every right to move towards the countries of the first world.”
However, there is no official confirmation of the intention to recognize bitcoin as legal tender in Honduras. According to unverified information, President Castro may make a corresponding statement on April 6.
It should be noted that in the world, especially against the backdrop of large-scale economic sanctions against Russia, there is a trend to abandon the use of the US dollar. And cryptocurrencies can become one of the means to do this. For example, China and Saudi Arabia have accelerated the adoption of yuan settlements. In the future, they may switch to settlements in the digital yuan.
Earlier it was reported that since the recognition of bitcoin as legal tender in El Salvador, only 14% of companies in the country accepted payment in BTC.
