A tourist from Minas Gerais was shot on Sunday afternoon (6/04) during an attempted robbery near the Rio de Janeiro port area. The victim is Vinicius Cardozo Moreira Dias, a newly married civil engineer, who was on honeymoon, aboard a cruise that was scale in the city, accompanied by the groom’s wife and parents.
According to police information, Vinicius used a cord of thick gold when he was approached by a robber on a motorcycle. The criminal tried to pull the accessory, but the tourist reacted, starting a body struggle. During the confrontation, the engineer was hit by shots on the face and chest.
He was rescued by coastal guard agents and taken to Souza Aguiar Municipal Hospital in the city center.
The robber tried to escape, initially abandoning the motorcycle, but there was chase by police from the 5th BPM (Harmony Square), who followed him to a vehicle where he tried to escape. The suspect also abandoned the vehicle and entered Morro do Pinto, where he was arrested by agents of the Pacifying Police Unit (UPP) of Providence.
The case was registered at the Center (4th DP) police station, which investigates the attempted murder – theft followed by attempted murder.
There is still no updated information about the health of Vinicius, which is still hospitalized.
