Hong Kong Model for Crimea and Donbass?

Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu described yesterday’s round of talks as an important step for peace, expressing hope for a future Putin-Zelensky meeting.

Ankara through Erdogan reiterated that it wants to host a meeting between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky for peace. In fact, yesterday the Ukrainians gave a draft that says what they intend to agree on. It is clear that they agree not to join NATO but insist on joining the EU.

The thorns are in the Donbas and Crimea regime. A proposal for a Hong Kong model is floating, but for which there was no position on either side. The Russian delegation withdrew, saying it would pass on the Ukrainian proposals to Putin.

Meeting Putin Zelensky only when everything is ready to be signed

The information says that today and tomorrow the contacts by video conference will continue in order to find a common place of convergence in a text on which the foreign ministers of the two countries can discuss.

In other words, the hopes are now focused on a Lavrov-Kuleba meeting, which may prepare a final Putin-Zelensky meeting. However, Russia has made it clear that Putin will only meet when everything is ready to be signed.

In the meantime, the next few hours and days will show the extent to which military activity around Kyiv and Chernihiv will be curtailed, according to Moscow, in order to give way to negotiations.
