A tragedy occurred in a seaside resort in Montalto Di Castro, Italy, north of Rome, when a 17 -year -old lost his life while dug in the sand with his two younger siblings. The young man had dug about one and a half meters near a campsite, when the soil suddenly retreated and overwhelmed, according to the Adnkronos news agency, citing police. The 17 -year -old was buried under the masses of sand and died of suffocation. His two brothers had been removed from the spot shortly before the incident, so the accident was not immediately noticed. When they returned around 3pm, they immediately called their father, who alerted the authorities. However, it took 40 minutes for the young man to get rid of the sand – it was already late. The family, originally from Rome, about 100 kilometers away, was on the campsite for vacations.
