A spin-off of the horror franchise “Death of the Demon” is in development. This Monday (5), the news portal deadline stated that the new project is directed by Sébastien Vanícek, a rising director known for the films “Vermin” (2023) and “Mayday” (2015).
Details about the spin-off film's plot are still being kept under wraps. The new film should follow a more independent story from the franchise, like “Death of the Demon: The Ascension”, released in 2023.
In its latest release, as in the original work, released in 1981, the story followed a group of people persecuted by evil forces after opening the Necromonicon, The Book of the Dead.
The “Death of the Demon” franchise was created and originally directed by Sam Raimi, responsible for the first Spider-Man trilogy released in theaters. The story resulted in five films (two of which were spin-offs, like the last one released) and a series titled “Ash vs. Evil Dead”, which ran for three seasons between 2015 and 2018.
The classic trilogy is made up of “One Hallucinating Night: Death of the Devil” (1981), “One Hallucinating Night 2” (1987) and “One Hallucinating Night 3” (1993). Years later, the derivatives “The Death of the Demon” (2013) and “The Death of the Demon: The Ascension” were released.
In the original plot, Ashley, the protagonist, and a group of friends go to a house in the forest for a night of fun. There, they find an old book that, when read aloud, awakens death. The friends end up releasing a chain of demons and will have to fight for their lives – or end up like one of them.
The new feature film still has no release date.
