Horror in the US: A garbage truck crushed a homeless man sleeping in a bin

A horrific incident shocked the local community of Springfield in Illinois with a homeless to lose his life as he was crushed by a garbage can. The homeless man is believed to have been warming himself in a rubbish bin when the vehicle came to pick up the bin.

He was then crushed to death in one garbage truck. The body of Lee Roy Stewart, 58, was found at the Waste Management Facility, according to FOX Illinois.

Sangamon County Medical Examiner Jim Allmon has confirmed that Stewart would be alive as his body was crushed by the vehicle.

Local reports from The State Journal-Register said it was unclear if the man was sleeping or disoriented in the trash.

Trying to keep warm cost him

The medical examiner said that the homeless man “died from crushing injuries that are in line with the equipment used to transport garbage” and that there is no suspicion of criminal activity.

Investigators still do not know why Stewart was in the trash, but a homeless initiative organization suggested it was for comfort and to keep warm.

Julie Benson, president of Helping the Homeless in Springfield, told the station: “They find a point where they are offline.

“They can be comfortable where they are. That is their home. “

Temperatures can drop as low as -4 C in Springfield at night this time of year.

On Friday 10/12, investigators were finally able to locate a member of his family, according to News Channel 20.
