Hoskinson responded to a tweet from the CEO of the American crypto exchange Coinbase, Brian Armstrong. The exchange is working to upgrade its Solana infrastructure to cope with the surge in network traffic, with many users complaining of delays in transaction processing in recent days. This is due to the launch of the TRUMP and MELANIA memtokens.
Polygon Labs CEO Marc Boiron also complained about unsuccessful transactions through the Moonpay and Jupiter services when he tried to buy Melania Trump’s memecoin. Boiron was upset that if not for the network delays, he could have made a tenfold profit from the MELANIA token. The Solana network is not yet mature enough to handle large volumes of transactions, Boiron noted.
Hoskinson took the opportunity to praise his own network, saying that the Cardano blockchain could handle higher transaction volumes better than Solana. This is why work is underway on updates to Leios and Hydra in order to process such surges in transactions without failures and additional costs, the developer assured.
Leios is an update to Cardano’s consensus mechanism designed to increase network throughput by decoupling transaction processing from network consensus. Hydra is a Cardano scaling protocol that can be integrated with decentralized applications and layer 2 solutions for parallel transaction processing. The catch is that Leios and Hydra are still in development, and the timing of their launch on the mainnet is still unknown.
Previously, Hoskinson had already criticized the competing blockchain Solana for repeated network failures, responding to statements by Solana developers who reproached the creators of Cardano for being too cautious and slow.
