Hospital confuses names and mistakenly reports death of elderly woman in SP

The Santa Casa de Ribeirão Preto, in the interior of São Paulo, communicated by mistake the death of an elderly woman to her family.

The confusion occurred due to similarity between names of two patients who were in the unit.

The family members of Neide Rossi aged 73, were notified of his death on Saturday (30). However, the patient who died was Neide Basso 81 years old.

In a note sent to CNN Santa Casa acknowledged the error and classified the case as an “inconsistency in communication”.

According to the institution, Psychology and Medical Clinic teams met with family members to clarify what happened and offer support.

Santa Casa also highlighted that it is taking all appropriate measures to investigate the causes of the error.

On social media, family and friends of Neide Basso mourned her death and published messages of mourning.
