The Hospital das Clínicas in São Paulo is carrying out on Wednesday (27) a task force of rapid tests for the detection of HIV, the human immunodeficiency virus that attacks the immune system. The service will take place from 11 am to 6 pm in the premises of the Pinheiros Bus Terminal, close to the terminal administration.
The tests will be carried out by professionals from the HIV/AIDS Patient Care Extension Service (SEAP). Results will be reported by psychologists, social workers, nurses and doctors in individual tents.
In case of a positive diagnosis, the person will be promptly welcomed by the team and can start treatment at SEAP, which works at Rua Ferreira de Araújo, 789, West Zone of São Paulo.
The SEAP team has infectious disease specialists, psychiatrists, gynecologists, nurses, dentists, psychologists, social workers, nutritionists, pharmacists and physical educators.
During the task force, the population will also receive guidance on ways to prevent sexually transmitted infections (STIs), condoms and informational materials.
In the last ten years, the incidence among the young population has increased by more than 50%, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Ministry of Health of 2021.
Decline in condom use
A survey by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), released in July, points to a drop in condom use by adolescents in Brazil.
From 2009 to 2019, the percentage of people between the ages of 13 and 17 who used a condom at their last sexual intercourse dropped from 72.5% to 59%. Among girls, the drop was from 69.1% to 53.5% and, among boys, from 74.1% to 62.8%.
The data are an excerpt from an experimental study of the National School Health Survey (PeNSE), which presents comparable indicators for students in the 9th year of elementary school.
