The World Public Health Federation has called on authorities and international bodies to release extensive humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
A CNN Radio Fiocruz professor emeritus Paulo Buss, who is a member of the federation’s council, said that he receives reports from colleagues who work in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
“Yesterday alone, almost 800 people were injured in hospitals, most of them children, women and the elderly,” he said.
According to Buss, doctors in Gaza are “exhausted” and, without fuel, hospital generators are unable to function, which further hampers care.
“The ideal is the entry not only of medicine, but of surgical equipment, masks and gloves”, he argued.
According to Paulo Buss, the opening of the humanitarian corridor through southern Gaza allows the Red Cross, WHO and the Palestine Refugee Agency to set up field hospitals in the Sinai peninsula.
“We also proposed that one or two hospital ships be placed off the coast of Egypt,” he added.
The doctor highlights that this type of hospital has a “surgical center, with special care” and permission for them would be a “humanitarian gesture from developed countries.”
