Hospitalizations for Covid-19 fell for the eighth consecutive day in the state of São Paulo, after two months of growth, according to an announcement by the state government at a press conference this Wednesday (9).
Also according to the government, São Paulo reached the mark of 80% of the total population vaccinated with two doses of immunization against Covid and 52% of children aged 5 to 11 years who received one dose.
Currently, the occupancy rate of ICU beds is 70.2% in the state and 70.5% in Greater São Paulo. The total number of people hospitalized in intensive care is 3,672, registering a decline for six days. In the infirmary beds, there are 6,125 people hospitalized.
Jean Gorinchteyn, state secretary of health, said vaccination was important for this decrease. He also reported that it is the first day in the last 11 peak days of the third wave that there are fewer than 10,000 Covid-19 patients hospitalized in the state.
Gorinchteyn added that the number of daily admissions was 1,521 and that it now stands at 1,201.
Regiane de Paula, coordinator of the São Paulo State Immunization Plan, warned that there are 10 million people in the state eligible to receive the third dose of immunizations against Covid. There are also 2.1 million people who have not yet taken their second dose.
“’C-Day’ reduced the number of absentees by 50% from November onwards. On day C, we applied more than 420,000 doses”, said the secretary, referring to the vaccination campaign carried out by the state last Saturday (5).
