Hospitalizations for flu syndromes grow 43% in state hospitals in SP

With the increase in Covid-19 and Influenza cases in recent weeks, the number of admissions to state hospitals in São Paulo increased by 43% in the first four days of January compared to the same period in December 2021.

According to the Department of Health of the state, the growth is influenced by the high number of cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SRAG), which include Covid-19 and Influenza.

In the first four days of the year, 2,215 hospitalizations for SRAG were reported, with only 270 for Covid-19. In the same period, in December, the number of hospitalizations was 1,551, with a similar level of the new coronavirus, with 227.

In the last week, regions in the interior of São Paulo more than doubled the occupancy of beds in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), according to the Infotracker platform, from USP and Unesp.

The regions of Araçatuba, in the northwest of the state, and Registro, in the south, registered an increase of 433% and 330%, respectively, in the number of hospitalized patients. In Sororocaba, the number of beds occupied jumped from 36 to 55 in the last seven days.
