Families of hostages held by Hamas since its attack on Israel on October 7, 2023 marked their loved ones’ 300th day in captivity on Thursday (1st).
Some family members blocked a main highway in Tel Aviv, with the number “300” painted in yellow on the road, while others painted the number in red on a bridge.
Others gathered outside the city museum, a square that has become known as “Hostage Square,” where a table was set up for the 115 hostages still held by the Islamist group Hamas that rules the Gaza Strip.
Despite recent assassinations in Tehran, Gaza and Beirut of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders that have seen tensions rise in the region, some family members of hostages have expressed hope that negotiations will resume to reach a deal that would free their loved ones from nearly 10 months of captivity.
Hamas led an attack on Israeli border communities and army bases on October 7, 2023, killing around 1,200 and kidnapping more than 250 others, mostly civilians.
Israel has launched a war against the militant group that rules the Gaza Strip, killing more than 39,000 people, according to local health officials who do not distinguish between fighters and civilians but say more than half of the dead are women or children.
