Hostage release is “hopefully the start of more”, says diplomatic source

The release of two American hostages kidnapped by the radical Islamic group Hamas this Friday (20) is “hopefully the beginning of more actions to come,” a diplomatic source told CNN .

The source confirmed that the hostages, a mother and her daughter, were already with the Red Cross and indicated that no exchange was part of their release. The motivation was “humanitarian reasons”, as the mother’s health is poor.

It is unclear whether they will leave Gaza for Egypt or Israel.

It is the result of negotiations between Qatar and Hamas, which began after the extremist organization kidnapped around 200 people in the surprise attack on Israel on October 7.

“In response to Qatari efforts, the Al-Qassam Brigades released two American citizens (a mother and her daughter) for humanitarian reasons and to prove to the American people and the world that the allegations made by Joe Biden and his fascist administration are false. and unfounded,” Hamas spokesman Abu Obaida said in a statement.

The White House and the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu did not comment on the episode.
