Hotel at the foot of a volcano in Costa Rica, Amor Arenal has pools with thermal waters

The day dawns and the sounds of the forest are already present. When we open the bedroom curtains, a surprise: in addition to being faced with an exuberant nature and a wooden deck with a hot and private pool, the Arenal Volcano rests imposingly in the background of the landscape.

So is the stay at Arenal love , five star rainforest hotel which is at the foot of this one of the main volcanoes in Costa Rica . Located in the district of La Fortuna, in San Carlos, in the province of Alajuela, the hotel is about 2h30 from the airport of the capital San José and is surrounded by greenery – waterways, trails and waterfalls are also around it.

With so many attributes, it is easy to understand why the hotel region was chosen this year as one of the 22 “highest global destinations” by the annual ranking Travellers’ Choice from the platform TripAdvisor .

Inserted in the midst of geological wonders, the district of La Fortuna in northeastern Costa Rica, is one of the gateways to Arenal, a volcano that woke up from a long sleep in 1968 – but don’t worry, since 2010 the lava is no longer seen, only a smoke at the top reminds us that there is a volcano nearby.

Its scenic beauty and volcanic activities are important allies in ecotourism , developed here in a responsible manner together with the luxury hotels in the region. It is important to note that the district is home to more than 20 hotels and a lot of tourist infrastructure, which was born precisely because of the Arenal and around it.

The Arenal Love

Thus, the hotel borrows the name of the volcano in its title and makes it beautiful to welcome us in its common areas and accommodations immersed in nature. In all, there are 31 rooms in the style of “luxury cabins”, which are called “casitas”.

Divided into two categories – what basically changes are the quantities of beds and their sizes -, the suites have more than 80 square meters and have a deck with views of the rainforest and the volcano, as well as small private thermal water pools – from the Arenal Volcano and rich in minerals associated with well-being.

There are 21 “Canyon Casita King” accommodations, with a king size bed, and 10 “Canyon Casita Queen”, these with two queen beds and glass showers that provide a privileged view of the forest and the Arenal.

In terms of gastronomy, the hotel has El Rancho, a farm to table with seasonal ingredients. Having breakfast or lunch and dinner here is synonymous with filling your eyes with stunning views of the volcano. Fresh Pacific fish, chicken, vegetables, organic eggs and fruit from local farms, plus spices and herbs from the garden, are served daily.

La Jaranita, on the other hand, is a gastropub specializing in tapas and snacks to be shared in small bites – this is where the music is lively and we order refreshing drinks.

Experiences

Built inside a private reserve, Amor Arenal is surprising for being a refuge next to the imposing volcano. High ceilings and an architecture with a predominant use of wood – as a kind of lodge – set the tone of the property.

Geared towards adults and couples (the hotel only accepts guests over 13 years old), the ideal is to disconnect from everyday life and relax in nature – preferably with a drink in hand at the wet bar in the pool overlooking the Arenal.

Hot thermal pools, spa with two treatment rooms, yoga platform, meditation platform and gym complete the experience. wellness.

With direct access to the forest, two trails can be done alongside a local guide, where we find streams and waterfalls on the way. Once here, it is also worth planning a more personalized itinerary and getting to know the region of the Arenal Volcano National Park, in the vicinity of the volcano, with beautiful natural landscapes. The entrance fee is US$15 for non-resident adults.

It is worth remembering that the region of La Fortuna is very popular for ecotourism, which means that the numerous activities in the region are carried out in the midst of the abundant jungle, such as zip lines, trails, bathing in waterfalls and in hot springs. There are several tours, all private, made through agencies – you choose what you want to do, the agency or the hotel will help you in the mission.

And a tip: Amor Arenal has special offers according to the date and duration of the stay, so it’s worth keeping an eye out for site and in social media to check special packages.
