Hotel Cipriani Venezia: Why the Festival Stars Love It

The latest in order of time was Lady Gaga: the pop star has landed at theHotel Cipriani, A Belmond Hotel Venice together with his Michael Polanskiconfirming how the legendary hotel has always been one of the favorite destinations for stars attending the Venice Film Festival.

George Clooney (who once used this as his base for his wedding to Amal Alamuddin, although the ceremony was held in the nearby Aman hotel), Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Harrison Fordbut also, in the past, Lady Diana (who here, she said, felt at home)Margaret Thatcher, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, Paul McCartney, Ingrid Bergman and many, many others have stayed and loved this place, a true icon of Venice for over sixty years.

There is no doubt that the «Cyprians» is a dream place, capable of enclosing all the romantic charm of one of the most beloved cities in Italy. Its success is not just a question of luxury, in fact, but is concentrated precisely in the way in which a place like this gives the overseas public the image of Italian eleganceexactly as they are used to imagining it.

The location

We are on the island of Giudecca, a stone’s throw from Piazza San Marco (the suites offer a priceless view of the most iconic panorama of the city, from the Doge’s Palace to the church of San Giorgio) but far from the noise of overtourism. From here, Venice preserves its beauty intact. Cipriani is reached by private boat, available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Once you arrive here, the world of Dolce Vita opens its doors. Venetian furnishings, Murano glass chandeliers, decorated ceilings and 79 rooms and suites, most overlooking the lagoon or the beautiful private garden, the jewel in the crown of the hotel. A green oasis of tranquility, all roses and ponds, cypresses and pomegranates, birds chirping and benches where you can sit and read, feeling like Alice in Wonderland, The Casanova Gardens are just one of the features that make this hotel unique. The other, much loved by regulars, is the huge Olympic swimming poolheated and filtered with sea water, the only one available in the whole of central Venice. In addition to these, there is a spa, a wellness center, a mini club and a tennis court, as well as a boutique with handicrafts and elegant evening dresses, in case yours got wrinkled during the trip.

Another distinctive element of the hotel is Oro, the hotel’s starred restaurant with a view of the lagoonled by chef Vania Ghedini and with the creative direction of Massimo Bottura. Here you can eat a very Italian seven-course menu, including bigoli in salsa and tiramisu, for 250 euros, and for 28 euros you can add a plate of tortellini from Tortellante (Massimo Bottura’s project dedicated to boys and girls with autism) with Parmigiano Reggiano cream.

The story

The history of the Hotel Cipriani Venezia begins in 1956, when Giuseppe Cipriani, founder of the legendary Harry’s Bar (where the Bellini cocktail was born), decides to build a hotel specifically dedicated to the international jet-set. Two years later, in 1958, the hotel was inaugurated, which soon became a point of reference for actors, aristocrats, diplomats, magnates and the like. The hotel – which over the years has also added to its property the ancient residence of the 15th century Palazzo Vendramin, where there are seven luxury suites with private butler – was then renovated for its sixtieth anniversary, maintaining intact its charm and elegance.

The experiences

A feature of the Cipriani Venezia hotel is certainly that of making its guests experience the spirit of Venice. The hotel staff can in fact organize tours of all kinds, for example to discover the Venetian Bacari, or aboard the Oedipus Rex, an elegant sixteen-meter motor yacht with which to discover the lesser-known corners of the lagoon. Gondola rides, bike rides, outdoor picnic with personalized basketsdinners among the vineyards or wellness treatments followed by a toast with a Bellini: everything here is designed to make your stay as special and exclusive as possible. Just ask.

How much does it cost to stay at Cipriani?

A stay experience like this, it goes without saying, is not within everyone’s reach. Prices vary depending on the type of room chosen: a superior double room with private patio, breakfast included, costs 2,595 euros per night. About three hundred euros more to reserve a Junior Suite, with three beds and two bathrooms, and overlooking the Casanova gardens. The suites of Palazzo Vendramin, with four beds and a separate living area, start at 3,750 euros a night; while the exclusive Suites, such as the Dogaressa Suite, from which you can admire Piazza San Marco and the Doge’s Palace through large Gothic windows, cost almost ten thousand euros a night.
