Hotel slippers: wearing slippers beyond the hotel room is not crazy. It's fashionable!

In 2018 hotel slippers, those supplied in the welcome kit of 5-star facilities, at Justin Bieber's feet on the streets of New York and Los Angeles, were considered a moment of unconventional style from the pop star.

Six years and a pandemic later, the hotel slippers did theupgrades: in 2024, it's no longer a bold move to wear them beyond the confines of your hotel room, but rather, it's downright fashionable. But let's go step by step.

Rubber slippers yes or rubber slippers no? This is the dilemma of summer 2023

They're trendy, but not exactly elegant. They are big and a little squat, but really comfortable (we tested them). So much so that they are nicknamed “cloud sandals”. Will you give in to the seasonal trend that wants them to become summer it-shoes or will they never, ever enter your wardrobe?

If in 2021 the rapper Saweetie, addicted to “skyscraper” heels, she did not go unnoticed in Venice when she paired her high fashion emerald dress by Dolce&Gabbana with a pair of very comfortable hotel slippers, in 2022 the most comfortable slippers (let's face it) then infiltrated one of the coolest events on the calendar of the entire year: the amfAR gala in Cannes. However, to consecrate them on the catwalk as the new fetish of fashion, after towels and turbans, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen who introduced them last autumn to the Spring-Summer 2024 fashion show of their brand The Row. After all, they can be considered the epitome of that artfully messy luxury that has become the signature of twins designers. From the hotel to the streets of Paris, the step was short: the white bedroom slippers, generally disposable, perfectly reflecting the design quiet luxury of the American twins (who proposed them not in toweling but in satin), have been so blessed by fashion.

Recall that the Olsen twins accurately predicted the return of flip-flops, now on everyone's feet, back in 2018. So, perhaps we are not even too surprised that hotel slippers are now becoming the favorite footwear of Instagram girls in the wake exactly that fusion between luxury and leisurewear ever stronger (already in January the British actress Amanda Holden she was immortalized with the unmistakable slippers on her feet).

Confirmation of trend of hotel slippers now comes from Kim Kardashian: the entrepreneur and influencer was photographed in recent days under the sun of the Turks and Caicos islands, where she was on holiday with her sisters Kourtney and Khloe, while playing on the beach with her daughter wearing hotel slippers under the costume.

More precisely, Kanye West's ex-wife chose to wear the white slippers recently presented by the brand Chrome Heartsa Los Angeles luxury brand with goth DNA.

The slippers, as we read on website of the brand through which you can purchase them, they are Made in Italy and made of 100% cotton, have a rubber sole and feature embroidered details that reproduce the brand's iconic logo in the shape of a horseshoe. A non-negligible detail, they cost 475 dollars (around €640). The mood is a bit reminiscent of that of the Balenciaga towel.

To those who are not willing to pay this price to be cool, it's time to dig in the closet. How many of us, in fact, have not at least once taken away the slippers provided by the hotel (let's face it, one of the few objects in the world designed to be “stolen”) before leaving the room after a holiday?

Let's repeat it together: wearing hotel slippers not to go to the hotel's spa but to go out into the street is now acceptable and fashionable. And while they might still seem like a strange accessory to wear in the sunlight to some, it actually makes a lot of sense in the current fashion climate, where flats reign supreme and flats have become the new high heels.

Beyond the shower: do we all go out in towels?

Bathrobe, beach towel and towel are ready to cross the border between the shore and the toilet. After all, in the summer where everything is possible, we discover that showing off the “just out of the sea (or shower)” look could be a good couture idea for the evening too

However, so that it doesn't seem like you got lost on the way to the hot tub, hotel slippers must be worn elegantly as the Olsens suggest: therefore combined with minimalist basic garments, white t-shirts and cashmere sweaters, cream trousers or a mix of brown and black separates. Who can never have enough of luxurious comfort (they are the tangible accessory that you can afford to stay in a deluxe hotel) to add to your wardrobe?
