A large explosion destroyed the facade of the Hotel Saratoga in downtown Havana, Cuba, this Friday (6). With daily rates between R$1,400 and R$7,100, the luxury hotel operates in a commercial building built in 1880 and adapted as a hotel in 1933.
Rescue teams work at the scene looking for survivors and victims. According to the Cuban presidency, the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak.
The building underwent revitalization and was reopened as a hotel in 2005, being considered an architectural reserve of the city.

Saratoga defines itself as “a five-star with personality” on its website and claims that “there is nothing like it in Havana.” There are two restaurants and three luxurious bars in the building, including one with a gazebo.
With a rooftop pool, the hotel has a privileged view of the Capitol of Havana and the old center of the Cuban capital.
