#HotGirlWalk: Discover the TikTok Trend That’s Making Young People Walk More

When American influencer Mia Lind posted, in January 2021, a video on TikTok explaining her then-unknown technique Hot Girl Walk (or “walk of the hotties”, in good Portuguese), I didn’t imagine that it would become a trend (or, for the oldest ones on the internet, a viral one).

Today, the Hot Girl Walk hashtag has almost 400 million views on the social network.

The Hot Girl Walk is a proposal that combines physical exercise with informal meditation. According to its creator, to practice it, you need to walk 6 kilometers, outdoors, for an hour. During this journey, those who are walking can only think about three things: your goals, what you are grateful for and, of course, how hot you are.

The walk playlist also has rules and only upbeat music or motivational podcasts are allowed.

“What sets the Hot Girl Walk apart from a regular walk is the mindfulness aspect of the process,” Mia explained in an interview with Popverso CNN. “When I do my Hot Girl Walk, I feel super confident at the end of the exercise.”

In addition, Mia also commented, during the interview, that the purpose of the Hot Girl Walk is not to seek a perfect body or fit a certain aesthetic standard, as with other fitness trends that become successful on social media.

“My Hot Girl Walk idea already assumes that everyone already has sensational qualities and sensational bodies, no matter what. The idea is to put out a trust that comes from within,” she explained.

According to psychiatrist and lifestyle doctor, Arthur Danila, Mia Lind’s proposal is revolutionary, because, by using social networks and revamping the walk, it brings this accessible physical exercise closer to the younger audience.

“Walking has always been seen with a certain stigma, as if it were an exercise intended only for an older audience. And it is a physical exercise with many benefits, so it is very good that the younger audience approaches this proposal”.

The TikTok trend seems to follow a trend of behavior outside of social media. A survey released in February of this year by Polar, a leader in sports wearables and heart rate technology, showed a 25% increase in walking practice by Gen Z from 2020 to 2021.

Doctor Arthur Danila commented that the health benefits of those who practice the Hot Girl Walk are many, and not only for physical health, but also for mental health.

“The proposal of the Hot Girl Walk is interesting, because it does not focus only on physical exercise itself, but invites people to a pleasant experience, it has an emotional benefit linked to a self-care activity”, he explained.

And if you think that only women have joined the trend, you are wrong. In several videos of the Hot Girl Walk hashtag, people practice physical exercise as a couple and even parents have practiced walking after learning about the proposal for their children.

For those who read this text and felt inspired to start their daily walk, influencer Mia Lind left a tip for beginners on the Hot Girl Walk:

“My number one tip is to just get up and go, because once you get up, you’ve done the hardest. Choosing to go out and train, choose to exercise and choose to do something for you. Maybe put notifications on silent and actually use that to connect with yourself.”
