House approves urgency to vote on law that gives the right to home education

The Chamber of Deputies approved, by 290 votes to 144, the urgency of the text of the bill that provides for the right to home education and follows on Wednesday night (18) for the vote in plenary.

according to the project substitute of deputy Luisa Canziani (PSD-PR) for this proposal, to enjoy home education, the student must be regularly enrolled in an educational institution, which must follow the evolution of learning.

The PL amends Law No. 8069, of July 13, 1990, better known as ECA (Child and Adolescent Statute), and the LDB (Lei de Diretrizes e Bases da Educação).

Discussion of the urgency of the proposal divided opinions. Opposing the measure, deputies Bacelar (PV-BA) and Idilvan Alencar (PDT-CE) stated that home education devalues the teacher. “It’s handing your children over to those who weren’t trained to teach. And school is the place for direct contact with diversity, it is the factory of democratic regimes, as Anísio Teixeira used to say,” said Bacelar.

Deputy Captain Alberto Neto (PL-AM) defended the regulation of family education which, according to him, is already the reality of 11,000 Brazilian families. “Our obligation is to work to find a path within democracy to help everyone who needs a differentiated education.”
