Between the night of this Friday (28) and the early hours of this Saturday (29), several fireworks were set off on the streets of the suburbs of Salvador. In the neighborhood of Periperi, a resident’s house was invaded by a artifact known as sword .

In a note sent to CNN the Military Police of Bahia stated that a man was arrested and 74 fireworks of different natures were seized during an action focused on preventing sword fighting in the region.
The prisoner was caught on Rua das Virgens, with the trunk of his car loaded with 45 swords, 22 lipstick bombs and four 12-shot firecrackers. In addition to this seizure, three other swords were found abandoned on Rua Dr. Almeida.
According to the Public Ministry of Bahia (MP-BA), making, possessing or releasing swords is a crime and the penalty can be up to six years in prison. Even so, the tradition has been strong since the 1930s in Bahia, as part of the June festivities and, mainly, on the eve of the Saint Peter’s Day celebrations.
A Burning swords puts people’s lives at risk , causing hundreds of accidents, burns and even deaths. Furthermore, it causes damage to public and private property, according to the MP.
