With so many characters and names to remember in “The House of the Dragon” it is normal for dragons to take a back seat. However, to decide who will win the war between the Blacks and the Greens, they will be essential.
To better understand what they are like and which side each one is on, CNN organized a list with all the dragons in the series and their main characteristics.
As pointed out by Daemon at the end of the first season, the Black Council has far more dragons than the Green Council currently does.
Rhaenyra’s side has seven dragons that are already ridden, while Alicent and her son Aegon’s side only have three. In addition, there are also dragons without riders, which live in the wild.
Meet the dragons from “House of the Dragon”
Syrax

Vhagar

- Which side are you on: Greens;
- Who rides: Aemond Targaryen;
- Vhagar is the oldest and largest dragon in the series, and is therefore also called the queen of all dragons. She is twice the size of Caraxes and is currently ridden by Aegon’s younger brother. The dragon was previously ridden by Laena Velaryon, Daemon’s ex-wife, but passed to Aemond after her death, much to the dismay of Laena’s daughters. Her scales are a dark green, jade-colored color.
Meleys

Seasmoke

- No assembler;
- The silver-gray dragon was ridden by Laenor Velaryon, Rhaenyra’s ex-husband, before he faked his own death. Following Laenor’s departure, Seasmoke (or Fumaresia) is without a rider for the time being.
Vermax

- Rider: Jacaerys Velaryon;
- Vermax is a young dragon who hatched from an egg placed in the cradle of Jacaerys Velaryon, Rhaenyra’s eldest son, so that the two would bond from childhood. He has olive-green scales and orange membranes on his wings.
Arrax

- Is dead;
- Arrax was ridden by Lucerys Velaryon, Rhaenyra’s middle son, and one of the smallest dragons in the series. Both were killed in combat against Vaghar, who was already ridden by Aemond, at the end of the series’ first season.
Tyraxes
- Which side are you on: Blacks;
- Rider: Joffrey Velaryon;

- Sunfyre is the most beautiful dragon in the kingdom, although we have not yet seen him in the series, his golden scales shine like gold in the sunlight. He is ridden by Aegon, Alicent’s eldest son who is vying for the throne against Rhaenyra.
Vermithor

- No assembler;
- Vermithor, also known as the Bronze Fury, was ridden by King Jaeherys I Targaryen, Rhaenyra’s great-great-grandfather, before his death. Since then, the dragon has been without a rider. He is the second largest and second oldest of the dragons, behind only Vaghar.
Silverwing
