Data on housing starts and building permits continued the saga of better-than-expected numbers from the US. Home starts reached 1,739 million (annual rate), far exceeding the market consensus of 1,613 million. It represents a rise of 19.4% compared to the previous month.
Regarding the building permits, they registered an advance of 2.7% to 1,766 million (annual rate) above the 1.75 million expected.
The data had no impact on the market. The University of Michigan’s preliminary estimate of the April consumer confidence index will be released later on Friday.
