A spokesman for the Houthis said the Iran-backed militant group would offer a robust response to a second, albeit much smaller, series of US air strikes in Yemen this Saturday (13).
Spokeswoman Nasruldeen Amer told Al Jazeera Arabic that there were no injuries or “material damage” caused by the latest US action, but said there would be a “firm, strong and effective response”.
The US targeted a radar used by the Houthis in the early hours of Saturday (13), local time, according to a US official.
A joint US-UK operation a day earlier targeted nearly 30 different locations in an effort to disrupt the Houthis' ability to fire on international shipping lanes in the Red Sea.
Five Houthi fighters were killed in the first wave of attacks and six others were injured, a statement from the group said on Friday (12).
The Houthi-run TV channel Al-Masirah released a statement from the Houthi military on Saturday describing its readiness to target “hostile sources [tanto] on land and at sea.”
The attacks, which the Houthis described as a “brutal aggression”, would not dissuade Yemen from its stance of solidarity with the Palestinian people in Gaza, the statement said.
Houthi Maj. Gen. Al-Aatefi said in a statement that his forces' recent attacks on ships in the Red Sea showed they had the upper hand over the vital waterway, which he said was causing alarm in both Israel and the US.
Al-Aatefi said the Houthis wanted both countries to “remain alarmed” until they were forced to end the war in Gaza.
