A young woman from Lithuania struggled to have a child with her partner – a rare but impressive allergy proved to be the cause of her infertility, according to a recent medical report. The 29 -year -old has tried for four years to conceive naturally and underwent two cycles of IVF without success, which concerned her doctors. Due to her history with asthma and allergies to mold, cat hair and dust, she suspected that her allergies may have played a role. Blood tests showed high levels of eosinophils – a type of white blood cells involved in allergic reactions – while skin tests have revealed allergic sensitivity to mites, pollen, insects and dogs. Among the allergens was found the CAN F 5 protein, which is found in dandruff and dog urine, and has been sensitive to human sperm.
