How Abu Dhabi flirts with rich expats

is a strong act that Abu Dhabi has just carried out to promote the integration of its foreign residents. As reported by Financial Times in an article marked by The International Courier, the capital of the United Arab Emirates now allows expatriates to acquire nationality and settle in the country for the long term, whereas they previously had to leave the territory at the end of their employment contract. The business daily explains that with this radical change, the Emirati authorities are seeking to stimulate the domestic market by ensuring that wealthy newcomers come to support property prices.

Over the past year, dozens of expatriates with strong purchasing power have thus obtained an Emirati passport. Among them are several founders of ambitious start-ups but also the managers of major airlines such as Sir Tim Clark, the president of Emirates or Tony Douglas, the CEO of Etihad Airways.

These inhabitants have also been granted other significant advantages in the territory of Abu Dhabi. They can, for example, afford real estate where they want and no longer in the only areas authorized for foreign buyers. Or obtain a visa specially dedicated to retirees. Moreover, the Financial Times reveals that the Emirati government is also seeking, in the coming months, to allow expatriates to start or own a business, without the need for an Emirati partner.
