Cultural foster care is a project to combat child cultural poverty that is present in several Italian cities: Milan, Bari, Naples, Rome and Modena. He took it to Milan Midates, an association that has always dealt with childhood and parenting, after having met the other Italian realities that had similar projects. The project started with 25 couples of families with 5 outings.
“Many cultural organizations have offered to participate and many families have offered themselves as foster carers for the project that started in January” he explained to us. Beatrice Radognaadding that the initial target is made up of families with children between 0 and 10 with the aim of extending the project up to the age of 18.
How does it work? There is a recipient family and a foster family. To the former, the association or institution pays the entrance to the cinema or theater, the latter will carry out activities together with the former, covering its costs by itself.
We start from the concept of I entrustbut it is a choice of sharing for families, singles, couples even without children. “The child is never alone, but there is always a parent of reference: it is a commitment to culture, a combination of two families who can do activities together, but also make friends, create a relationship, even just go to eat an ice cream”.
The idea is easy to understand and manage with a small knowledge path and then with a (national) application every family can access an activity from the cinema to the square party. You pay with “educated”, a solidarity virtual currency whose transactions are tracked through the app. “After the pandemic there is also a great need to return to cultural activities,” they explain from Mitades, given that the assignment is also a help for local businesses and businesses that have stopped during the last two years.
In the experience already made in other cities there are friendship stories like the one told by Corriere della Sera of two mothers, the first of Venezuelan origin, the second Roman connected to the first because she knew Spanish. Their three children are close in age and do their homework together as well as play and hang out.
