How did women manage to conquer space – left their imprint on NASA’s history and humanity

On June 18, 1983, the Challenger Space bus was preparing for launch on the STS-7 mission, the seventh of NASA and part of the program for the first reusable spacecraft in the world. Among the five crew members was Californian natural Sally Redd, who became the third woman in the story who traveled in space. Before that, Soviet cosmonaut, Valentina Terreskova, had written history in 1961, while Svetlana Seviskaya became the second woman in 1982, after information that the US was planning to send their own astronaut female. Although the Barbie Astronaut doll had been released in the US in 1965, American women had to wait much longer to really get into space.
