How does a dying star or a pulsar sound: sounds of celestial bodies appeared in Yandex.Music

Information publication TASS with reference to the press service of “Yandex” reported that today, on April 9, employees of the streaming service “Yandex.Music” presented a new playlist called “Music of the Stars”. Its main feature is that the novelty consists entirely of works, so to speak, created using the physical parameters of cosmic bodies – stars, pulsars and even entire galaxies. The company representatives noted that space bodies are co-authors of music tracks – each composition was created on the basis of unique parameters, which were converted into music by Yandex’s own algorithms.

It is important to note that this project was created with the collaboration of astrophysicists who have made a significant contribution to the development of notes for each cosmic body. The company noted that in order to transform the unique parameters of objects, the brightness, the speed of movement of the body in space and other details were recorded in order to extract the parameters of frequency and amplitude from them. Further, these parameters were expressed in numerical format, after which the developers created a special table in which the parameters of each body were compared with certain notes. After this process, various effects and instruments were applied – in the end, ten full-fledged works were obtained.

For example, in the track called “The Sun”, the developers used information about the periodicity of the flashes of a luminary over the past 60 years, and in the Beta Lyrae star system (consists of two stars) the luminaries revolve around each other, so the music track “Eclipsing” is recorded in a waltz format … In addition, all the compositions in the album are arranged in a travel format from the nearest cosmic body (“the Sun”) to the most distant one – a supermassive black hole in the very center of the M87 galaxy. Additionally, the album contains comments of scientists about various celestial bodies, and there is also a video demonstrating how these bodies look in space.
