How does SYRIZA mean the compulsory vaccination it asks for the police – The penalties

By Niki Zorba

SYRIZA’s forecasts for the development of the fourth wave of the Pandemic are extremely gloomy and not only in terms of human losses. In Koumoundourou, they now believe that the country has exceeded the point where the imposition of measures would be sufficient to avoid a catastrophic lockdown, accusing the Government that when the alarm sirens sounded it did not take effective measures to stop the 4th wave.

Obligatoriness

The scenario that a lockdown is catastrophic but possibly inevitable, prevails in the private discussions of the officials of the official opposition party, given according to Koumoundourou sources, the measures announced by the prime minister on Thursday night, remain timid and ineffective. Koumoundourou’s reading is still that without “unpopular” decisions and based on the “balance” of votes, the fourth wave of the pandemic will not be stopped.

Hence, they proceeded officially, weighing the political costs themselves, in the request to extend the obligation of vaccinations to the police, the armed forces and the army. At first, Alexis Tsipras himself cowardly did this in his own TV message, talking about “tightening” measures for the unvaccinated police officers, characterizing it as unthinkable to be unvaccinated officials in charge of controlling other unvaccinated people and keeping them restricted.

More unequivocally, SYRIZA spokesman Nasos Iliopoulos stated this last Friday in a televised intervention (SKAI), calling for mandatory vaccination of police officers in the context of the harshest measures requested by SYRIZA, blaming the government for ineffective management.

Penalties

The question is what exactly does the official opposition mean by the demand for compulsory health and how does it counteract the accusations that when the issue of compulsory health vaccination was raised, the party was from the beginning opposed to the suspension of the unvaccinated.

“There is no contradiction or different speed in our proposal for unvaccinated police officers compared to unvaccinated medical officers. We do not ask for unvaccinated police officers to be suspended or fired. We propose ‘penalties’ for those who refuse to comply. Punishment can also be their obligation for multiple rapid tests – even molecular ones – in order to continue working in their services, the cost of which, of course, will be borne by them “.

This is the “complete” formulation of both the request and the reasoning of SYRIZA in its proposal for extension of obligation to the police. Would they “discuss” extending the obligation to other professional groups? Theoretically, most likely yes, if this was the dominant scientific view that the government decided to apply.

Cost

However, if one calculates how long it took for SYRIZA from the time it “pointed” in the direction of the mandatory vaccination of the security forces until the official formulation of the position (ie about three weeks), it is obvious that it would hardly emerge as an accelerating force in extension of obligation to other categories of workers. Already, she blames the government that none of its decisions are taken on epidemiological terms but only on the basis of votes, clearly acknowledging that there is some political cost in decisions that it would accept to share with the N.D. provided that her proposal for the joint establishment of a panel of experts to manage the pandemic was accepted.

This phase has passed irrevocably for SYRIZA and Alexis Tsipras. Andreas Xanthos, the party’s health chief, is an exception by sending constant signals to the government for “conciliation”. The former Deputy Minister of Health is still referring to an emergency situation that requires consultation of the political forces, he has repeatedly requested the convening of the Council of Political Leaders, recently asked in a letter to the Minister of Health to inform the political forces about developments in the pandemic. However, it seems that it broadcasts on a different wavelength from Alexis Taipras and SYRIZA, with party officials close to the president, saying: “We have now passed the point where we called the ND in consultation. We asked for it. he repeatedly mocked us, now it ‘s over “, the same sources report to Capital.gr.

Meanwhile, Alexis Tsipras in the statement-response to Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday night described the Austrian-type “lockdown” the new – few – restrictions he announced for the vaccinated, but in reality there are not many in Koumoundourou where they share this view . On the contrary, they talk about “few” measures taken under the “pressure” of the announcement that the president of SYRIZA would also make statements and do not show, according to A. Tsipras’ interlocutors, that there is no coherent government plan, only individual measures are taken. , of dubious effectiveness which is not enough.

At the same time, in SYRIZA, the prevailing view is that the characterization “pandemic of the unvaccinated” is not only misleading but also dangerous because it has only a communicative dimension, cultivating complacency in the vaccinated, even though they themselves are sick and transmitting.

In fact, what SYRIZA proposes are rapid tests on the vaccinated in order to better “trace” the cases, which, however, he asks to be prescribed and not to burden the pockets of citizens. This is a measure that has also been discussed for weeks in the official opposition party, opening a discussion about the mistake of having “free” vaccinated people. He found a nicer formulation of the formulation of eleo and… political cost which -of course- they themselves calculate.
