A young woman whose o salary jumped from $28,000 to $158,000 in just four years, revealed how she managed to achieve her remarkable salary increase. Data analyst Charlotte Chaze, whose company Break Into Tech specializes in teaching others how to land their dream job, shared a video on TikTok which explains how she made it to the top, starting her career in the “basement” of a research lab to earning a 6-figure salary as an analyst at American telecommunications company AT&T.
In the video – which has since happened viral on the platform, with nearly a million views and more than 76,000 likes – the 31-year-old recalls earning just $28,000 a year when she started her career “as a biomedical researcher, in an underground lab with no windows.” “I worked long hours, h my work it wasn’t very fulfilling and obviously, the pay wasn’t very great,” Chaze said.
“In 2018, I decided that I couldn’t go on and I started looking for new jobs, even ones I wasn’t qualified for, and I ended up in one of them – a data analytics partner, a consulting firm,” he said.
While she was making more money — topping out at $70,000 a year — Chaze said she wasn’t satisfied, spending most of her work hours working on Excel documents and PowerPoint presentations. So she decided to develop her expertise by learning how to decipher a programming language, which eventually helped her land a better job.
“I reapplied to various companies that I was not qualified for and ended up getting a job as data analyst at Comcast. I was making money from this job 90,000 dollars per year and the reason I got it was because I taught myself [Structured Query Language] within a few weeks using a website called Khan Academy,” Chaze said.
“During the interview, I told them about it SQL which I had done and finally they offered me the position.” After 18 months in the position, Chaze said she was promoted to director of analysts – increasing the annual salary of 104,000 dollars. A year later, he received a job offer from AT&T. “An employee from AT&T’s human reimgs department contacted me about a job that would pay me $158,000,” he pointed out.
“I went through the interview process and finally got the position in December 2021. This is because I applied for jobs that I didn’t feel like I was a good fit, but I knew I could handle it. “And most importantly, I taught myself data analysis on the internet,” he emphasized.
In a video uploaded shortly afterwards, Chaze shared some more advice – saying that people often they don’t sell themselves when they apply for a job.” “Any experience you have can be relevant experience. You just have to redefine your perspective,” he noted. “Almost anyone can do it. All you have to do is try to learn skills through the internet. You can even do it for free. “So many people I’ve worked with don’t have degrees, they don’t have prior experience in tech roles. They taught themselves the skills and succeeded just like I did.”
