How to avoid scams involving the BC system for “forgotten money” consultation

The new Amounts Receivable System (SVR)the Central Bank (BC) platform to rescue “forgotten” values in banks and financial institutions, debuted on Monday (14) and reached more than 36 million queries on the first day.

The popularity of the new BC system also attracts creative scammers who have already approached some citizens with the SVR as their motto. For the specialist in technology and digital security Arthur Igreja, scammers can “take advantage of the high visibility of the new tool to approach people”.

In addition, Igreja believes that with the large data leaks that have occurred in Brazil, criminals can use leaked CPF’s to discover that the person has a value to receive and approach them, passing malicious links to rescue or complete the registration”, he said. .

The Central Bank also warns users to be aware. The monetary entity emphasizes that the only website for consulting and requesting these values is valorareceber.bcb.gov.br. In addition, the bank informs that it does not send links or contact the public to deal with amounts receivable or to confirm personal data.

The BC reiterates not to click on suspicious links and for users not to make any type of payment to access the platform. Finally, the institution makes it clear that no one is authorized to contact customers on behalf of the bank or the SVR.

However, the Church understands that it is still difficult to know the reliability of security mechanisms. “Apparently, yes, the SVR is safe until something goes wrong. The part that worries is precisely because of the data leaks that have occurred in Brazil, it’s not exactly difficult to have someone’s CPF and date of birth,” he said.

Church also expressed concern about the fact that the system makes it possible to consult even with birth dates that are not true. For the specialist ‘this could be a flaw or perhaps the date of birth has no cadastral verification function’, she said.

Dinamo Networks CEO Marco Zanini also believes that the simplicity of data for a query can “open up opportunity for scams. With the information that the person has a balance receivable, some type of scam can be attempted or even put the person at risk”.

Zanini assesses that “the consultation should be linked to some type of authentication, such as digital certificates or access through Gov.Br, or even, through your own bank, via website or application”.

In order for users to protect themselves, Igreja reiterates that “the person must create their account on the government platform, and reach the security level to be able to redeem the value, always seek official channels and not click on suspicious links, do not believe in messages sent by SMS, email or WhatsApp regarding this matter”, he said.

In a note, the Central Bank reinforces that “information about the existing balance and the redemption request will only be made after logging in with silver or gold levels of the Gov.br account“. The institution stressed that it does not send emails or links and citizens must access the official website exclusively.
