One of the key differences between the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro lines was the Always-On mode (“Always on”) – the constant display of information on the screen. If the chip is active, after locking the smartphone, the display still shows information from the lock screen. To save battery, the refresh rate is reduced to 1 Hz (thanks to the LTPO technology that was originally used in the Apple Watch), the brightness is significantly reduced. The chip seems to be interesting, but it is unlikely to be actively used a week after buying the iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max. Therefore, it makes sense to figure out how to turn it off. Well, or turn it on again, if necessary.
- Open “Settings”.
- Go to the “Display and brightness” section.
- Toggle the Always On switch to disable to disable the feature, or reverse the action to enable it.
It is important to understand that information on the display of a smartphone from the iPhone 14 Pro line is still not always shown. The developers have come up with an intelligent mechanism that periodically turns off the screen completely, even if Always-On is enabled. This happens when the device thinks that it makes no sense to show information: when it lies on the table with the screen down, if you hide it in your pocket or bag, if the “Power Saving Mode” is active, or if you haven’t interacted with the device for a long time. In all scenarios described, the screen will turn completely black to conserve battery power.
What’s more, when using an Apple Watch, Always-On mode is also turned off if the user with a smartwatch on their wrist moves away from their iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max. The smartphone understands that the owner still does not see it, so it goes into low power mode.
And Always-On should not interfere with the user at night. Therefore, when the Sleep mode becomes active, the Always On action is automatically suspended. During the rest, no one will stare at the smartphone screen, so this is logical.
At the moment, Always-On mode simply duplicates information from the current iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro Max lock screen and cannot boast a separate settings section. However, in future releases of iOS, Apple may well supplement it with some individual settings.
