How to make an old iMac 21.5 faster than a new iMac M1 for the same cost. The enthusiast reinforced the old model on his own

The new iMac with SoC M1 is clearly faster than Apple’s old all-in-ones. But can an old iMac be made faster than a new one? The author of the video you can see below tried it and it worked.

In fact, the recipe is simple. Since older iMacs allow you to replace basic components, that’s just what you need to do.

In this case, the base model with a Core-i3 8100 and 8 GB of RAM received an eight-core Core i9-9900 and 32 GB of RAM. As a result, such a kit cost the author $ 1250, while the base iMac M1 costs $ 1300. Of course, you also need to replace the CPU and RAM, which is not so easy in the case of the iMac.

As a result, the strengthened iMac of the old generation, although it was inferior to the new one in synthetic tests, still won in real applications. For example, in Blender, the difference was almost twofold.

Of course, such an upgrade does not in any way rid the old model of a number of shortcomings or simply features. The screen size and resolution cannot be increased, noise and heating will only increase, and new interfaces will not appear either.
