Following the pandemic, remote work, what we call (but the British don’t) smart working, has established itself as a preferential modality for some types of professions. The McKinsey company has estimated that more than 20% of the workforce in developed countries will continue to work away from the office three to five days a week. Breaking the bond of physical presence implies being able to work, when the company allows it, even from places that offer a better quality of life (as we have told you here) and perhaps, why not, in places normally identified as holiday destinations.

ON AN ISLAND, BUT NOT ISOLATED
The Canaries have a geographically remote position (they are in the Atlantic, off the north-west coast of Africa), yet, especially in Tenerife and Gran Canaria, they have a high level of services for those who want to work there for some time.
It is no coincidence that since 2020 they have seen a monthly increase of 10% in the arrivals of remote workers, which today amount to approximately 8,000 professionals, coming mainly from Germany, France and the Netherlands, all countries that for some time (for tourism purposes) have understood the advantages of the mild climate of these islands throughout the year.
The island government has therefore decided to invest in this phenomenon: a half million euro plan is envisaged to attract 30 thousand workers over the next five years.
And if you are afraid of being disconnected, you can rest assured: the connectivity of the island is very high and the broadband here exceeds the European average.
