HPE acquires Determined AI, an innovative machine learning platform

Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) today announced the acquisition of Determined AI, a fledgling company that promotes a powerful and robust software stack to accelerate the learning of AI models at any scale, built on an open source machine learning platform.

HPE expects to combine its unique Determined AI software solution with its leading AI and high performance computing (HPC) offerings to enable machine learning professionals to easily implement machine learning models across virtually all industries.

HPE acquires Determined AI, an innovative machine learning platform

Building and training optimized machine learning models at scale is considered the most challenging and critical step in machine learning, and increasingly requires familiarity with HPC researchers and academics to successfully complete it. These include properly configuring and managing a highly parallel software ecosystem and infrastructure spanning specialized computing, storage, and accelerators. In addition, users need to effectively program, plan, and train their models to make the most of the highly specialized infrastructure they have built. This complicates the solution of the problem and decreases productivity.

Determined AI, an open source machine learning learning platform, closes this gap to help researchers and scientists focus on innovation and accelerate its adoption while eliminating the complexity and cost associated with machine learning development. This includes making it easy to install, configure, manage and share AI workstations or clusters that run on-premises or in the cloud.

The Determined AI team will join the HPE High Performance Computing (HPC) and Mission Critical Solutions (MCS) Business Group. The financial side of the deal was not disclosed.
