The small coastal city of Hsinchu in Taiwan is over three centuries old. Although it is the oldest city in the Taiwanese North, it is not its distant past that makes it known urbi et orbi. This is where the present and the future of technology worldwide is being built to a significant extent. It is no coincidence that the area is called Taiwan’s “Silicon Valley” and has attracted dozens of foreign investors, including prominent names in global technology, while only 45 years ago it was nothing more than a quiet city, known only “within the walls”, mainly thanks to its universities. The Athenian/Macedonian News Agency (APE-MPE) visited the “Silicon Valley” of Taiwan, as part of a reporting trip of European journalists, organized in early December 2024 by the Bakala Foundation, in collaboration with Sinopsis.
