Huawei figured out how to keep your smartphone working even after the battery is dead

The presentation of the new Huawei flagships will take place on September 6, but the company has already begun to reveal the features of the Mate 50 series. One of them is quite unusual: smartphones will be able to work (or rather, perform some basic functions) even after the battery is discharged.

Devices will be able to work even after “turning off” thanks to the “critical battery saving mode” in Harmony OS 3 – when activated, a discharged smartphone can be used to make calls and scan QR codes (in China they are very common, including for paying for purchases ).

The catch is that Huawei has not yet revealed the features of the technology. However, Chinese social networks are already speculating, at the moment there are two plausible versions: either smartphones will reserve a conditional 5% of energy for emergency functions, or when the battery is discharged, its voltage will decrease (from 3.2 V to 2.8 V and below). ) to “squeeze out” additional hundreds of mAh for emergency functions.
