Huawei will hold out under sanctions for up to 5 years without cutting salaries and without selling the smartphone division

US Presidential candidate Joe Biden (Joe Biden) for the post of head of the US Department of Commerce has pledged to protect US telecommunications networks from Chinese companies such as Huawei and ZTE. Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo has said she will protect US mobile networks from Chinese firms and is committed to keeping the aforementioned companies on the blacklist of economic trade, Reuters reports.

In her address to the US Senate Committee on Commerce, she stated, “I will use all the tools at my disposal to the greatest extent possible to protect Americans and our network from Chinese interference or any behind-the-scenes influence.”

Gina Raimondo specifically highlighted Huawei and ZTE, which are well-known suppliers of telecommunications equipment, especially for 5G infrastructure. Back in December 2020, Congress approved the allocation of $ 1.9 billion to replace ZTE and Huawei equipment in US mobile networks. This statement is consistent with the previous president’s anti-Chinese firm policy, which resulted in dozens of Chinese companies being blacklisted.

Raimondo also said that she will “review policy, consult with industry representatives, allies, and assess what is best for American national and economic security.” In addition, she pledged to take “an aggressive stance against China’s trade practices, stating that China’s actions were anti-competitive and that she would do her best to level the playing field.”
