Huawei Sound Joy has it all, and even a little more than competitors in a similar form factor and price range. Despite its size, the dark horse has high-quality sound with rich bass, good protection from water and dust, and, perhaps most importantly, multi-colored LED backlighting.
Minimalism is in vogue now
The column is a cylindrical capsule with a diameter of 73 mm and a height of 202 mm. With such relatively small dimensions, its weight is 680 grams. Thanks to this weightiness and a sense of the reliability of the design at first touch, it gives the impression of a serious acoustic installation, and not some cheap toy.
The case is covered with a proprietary fabric mesh designed to resist dust and liquid according to the IP67 standard. In the column, this is one of the promotional features, positioning it as a hiking option. With it, it’s not scary to get caught in the rain and accidentally spill drinks. Yes, even if you drop it into water (no deeper than 5 meters for up to 30 minutes), then nothing will happen to it.
My version has a strict but versatile black color with gray rubberized buttons. The manufacturer’s website presents two more brighter options – green and red (the second is not declared for sale in Russia).

But apart from high-profile statements, the fruit of the joint development is the Devialet SAM technology integrated into the column. In theory, the work of this program is to analyze the incoming information flow with its subsequent adaptation to the algorithms of the acoustic system, making the resulting output signal identical to the input signal. In practice, SAM has a significant effect on bass control, so that the middle and high frequencies are cleared of intermodulation impurities and the best sound is achieved.
All of the above is complemented by a juicy stuffing in the face of one ring full-frequency speaker with a power of 20 W with dimensions of 20 × 75 mm, one 19 mm high-frequency silk driver 10 W and two passive radiators. The speaker also covers frequencies in the range of 50 Hz – 20 kHz, supports AAC and SBC codecs, connects to devices via Bluetooth 5.2 and reaches a maximum volume of up to 79 dBA within 2 meters. With such equipment, Huawei Sound Joy simply had no right to disappoint. Moreover, she even conquered me with her clear and detailed sound, tangible and juicy bass, and most importantly, the feeling of being near the performer due to the correct sound. The volume reserve within the apartment was enough for my eyes, and I did not exceed its 60% level – I took pity on the neighbors. And at a picnic in an open space, the speaker will do an excellent job of spreading sound to everyone.
Another parameter that Huawei Sound Joy has is the uniform distribution of sound volume, regardless of vertical or horizontal orientation. In confirmation of this, I can say that the best position of the device for direct propagation of sound waves is when the brand logo is looking at the listener, regardless of the position of the speaker in space.
Smart technologies
Huawei Sound Joy is very close to a smart speaker in its equipment, and here’s why. For example, the light indication not only serves as an aesthetic decoration, but also displays the operating mode and clearly demonstrates the battery charge as the circle fills with lit LEDs. If you have two or more branded audio systems, there is no need to go into the Bluetooth settings to combine the speakers into a stereo pair, you can just shake them, and automatic detection and connection will occur. To quickly transfer the playing track, just put your smartphone on the round mark of the NFC antenna (only for Huawei smartphones). And thanks to the three built-in microphones, you can answer the call and chat with the voice assistant.
Also, water protection allows you to play with water in an interesting way, without fear of harming the column.
If the circular indicator lights up white – the speaker is turned on and ready for connection, the color indication indicates that music is currently being played.
Nearly endless battery life
According to the manufacturer, Huawei Sound Joy can play 26 hours on a single charge. Moreover, it is not specified what the volume level should be. And I have no reason not to trust it. The 8,800 mAh battery inspires confidence. For two weeks of use for three hours a day, I was not able to completely discharge it. But if it succeeds, then another 1 hour of operation will provide 10 minutes of charging at 40 W, while the total battery replenishment time at the same power will be just under 4.5 hours.
Review
Even if I wanted to find some disadvantages with Huawei Sound Joy, I would not be able to do it. It’s a perfectly balanced Bluetooth speaker with no flaws that gets my personal liking over other competitors. Actually, why not? The device is more than an ultimatum. It can easily be used as a home audio system that can pleasantly surprise you with rich bass, despite its size. Yes, even communicate with a voice assistant and make audio calls with it will work. And in field conditions, it will become a faithful companion: high-quality protection against water and dust, clear and loud sound, almost eternal battery. What else do you need to be happy?
