Rumors surfaced on Monday that Huawei might sell the smartphone division. Later it became known that the company is negotiating the sale of premium brands of smartphones P and Mate.
Huawei has issued an official statement saying, “We remain fully committed to our smartphone business and will continue to provide the world’s best products and experiences to consumers around the world.”
Will Wong, an analyst at Singapore-based research firm IDC, believes Huawei can only sell its smartphone division as a last resort when it tries all the options.

The sale of another well-functioning business unit will not solve the problems associated with the US sanctions, but will only lead to the loss of Huawei’s main source of income. Such a deal is only possible as a last resort, especially if the company still wants to maintain its presence in the smartphone market. The Mate and P series smartphones, as well as the HiSilicon SoC, are the pillars that support Huawei’s image and competitive advantage in the market.

Huawei’s founder and CEO Ren Zhengfei recently said the company must decentralize its operations, simplify product lines, focus on making profits, and maintain pay levels for three to five years in order to survive US trade restrictions.
