Huawei will receive an exclusive version of Qualcomm Snapdragon 898

Huawei ran out of stocks of Kirin SoCs, which prompted the Chinese tech giant to switch to Qualcomm’s mobile platforms.

Chinese sources say Huawei will receive an exclusive version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC, which will be manufactured by Samsung using a 4nm manufacturing process. This version will support fourth-generation networks, but will not be able to work on 5G networks due to the imposed US sanctions.

Huawei Mate 50 should be the first smartphone with this special version of Snapdragon 898. The single-chip system should have a main core Cortex X2 @ 3.0 GHz, three cores Cortex A78 @ 2.5 GHz and four cores Cortex A55 @ 1 , 79 GHz.

The source adds that the 4G-only version of Snapdragon 898 will not differ in performance from the standard 5G version of the new flagship mobile platform.

Earlier it was reported that Huawei has already started internal testing of new Huawei Mate devices with the Snapdragon 898 4G chipset, which are expected to launch in the first quarter of next year.

Speaking of 5G networks, it’s worth noting that the Canadian authorities recently announced plans to restrict the use of 5G networks near most of the country’s major airports. The announcement stunned the telecommunications industry, which was completely unprepared for the scale and severity of the planned restrictions.
