Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Realme are in danger in Russia. Chinese brands are at risk of halving shipments

In Russia, the supply of smartphones of such popular Chinese brands as Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Realme may decrease. This was reported by the Kommersant edition with reference to the report of GS Group analysts.

According to GS Group, in 2020 the share of smartphone imports to Russia by Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Realme was 47%. If the United States continues to impose tough sanctions against Chinese manufacturers, the share of these brands will decrease to 25% in 2021.

In 2020, as a result of sanctions against Huawei, shipments of smartphones from this manufacturer to Russia fell by 26%. For some time now, Huawei has been banned from the supply of components by American companies by the US authorities, and Huawei is not licensed to use Google services and applications.

The shipments of Xiaomi smartphones to the Russian market in 2020 increased by 20%. With regard to Xiaomi, the US authorities have just begun to take steps – in January Xiaomi was blacklisted, prohibiting Americans from investing in the company. However, at the moment, the sanctions do not apply to components and software for Xiaomi.

In total, 11 million Samsung devices, 7.7 million Huawei devices, 5.9 million Xiaomi, as well as 4 million Apple devices were imported to Russia during the year. Samsung and Apple shipments are up 7% and 17% in 2020.
