Hubble Telescope captures image of massive star formation

A NASA released this Friday (16) a new image captured by Hubble Space Telescope . The photo, taken from monitoring carried out by the United States agency and the European Space Agency (ESA), recorded the formation of stars.

The image, which was taken on February 11, shows the star-forming conglomerate known as IRAS 16562-3959 . The region is within the Milky Way and about 5,900 light years away from Earth, in the constellation Scorpius.

The record was made by Hubble's WFC3 camera (Wide Field Camera 3, in English), installed in 2009. The details are the result of four filters used separately.

In the center of the image, it is possible to see that the region probably houses a massive star – with around 30 times the mass of the Sun – still in the process of formation. The clouds appear dark because there is a lot of stardust that blocks the light and limits the near-infrared wave of light captured by Hubble.
