Former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, chosen on Tuesday (12) by President-elect Donald Trump as US ambassador to Israel, called for a “complete reset” of “international relations” when Trump returns to the White House.
Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Huckabee suggested a major reassessment of diplomatic relations at all levels, laying out what he anticipates for Trump’s foreign policy vision.
“It is time for a complete reset of our domestic and international relationships. That’s what Donald Trump is clearly setting out to do, and I couldn’t be happier to see it happen,” Huckabee said.
The new ambassador stated that Trump’s electoral victory has already impacted the conflict in the Middle East, while further triggering a “realignment” of the country’s place in foreign diplomacy.
“You’re seeing a mess across the Middle East of countries trying to behave differently because they know a new sheriff has come to town,” he declared.
Crimes against the UN
Huckabee also praised Trump for selecting New York Rep. Elise Stefanik as the next U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, saying she will bring “a major revelation of what is wrong” at the U.N.
Stefanik is frequently critical of the international organization, particularly over its criticism of Israel, and last month said the Biden administration should consider a “complete reassessment” of U.S. funding for the UN if Palestinian authorities continue pressure to withdraw Israel from the UN.
